Maternity Session by the Sea
Today, I am so excited to share my first session of the season. The Koza's are welcoming their first baby into the world and wanted to capture the wonderful of parenthood at the most amazing location. The beach was just prefect. There is something magical about the the combination of the sea and a maternity session. Cheers!!!
My dear friend Sherri Koop has put out an amazing book on analog photography. I was honored to be interviewed and included demonstrating the wet-plate process. It's really a great resource by a wonderful photographer! Check out the book HERE.
Photographing the people you care about is like getting a head start in a race. The connection between subject and photographer, which is so paramount in the creative process, is already firmly established. My subject for this session was a dear friend of almost 23 years and her family. I have known Kathryn since the first grade and was so honored to be able to photography her maternity/family session.
We wanted to do a beach session that was relaxed and calm. I choose little Corona in Corona Del Mar, California. It has a wonderful tide pool and rock formations. We decided on a muted color pallet for the outfits that would match the tones of ocean but stand out slightly. We had about an hour of sunlight left when we started the session and worked our way down the beach. A few shots where planned out but most of them came organically. Forming a few seconds before the shutter was fired. I love working in this manner. Letting the nature interpersonal relationships and love of the family move the process.
In reference to the beach, I have always said the environment is the most important part of any photography project. It truly shapes the overall feel and emotion from both subject and artist. I find myself going back to the same locations, not because of the aesthetic but because I am draw to how my subjects react to the space. There is a intrinsic link between the canvas of the sea and a mother with child. I am so happy with the final outcome and excited to share.

This is a two part post. For Teighlor and Ralph's Engagement Session, we wanted to do two completely different themed session. One would be more of Film Noir style in studio and the second one would be shot at Disneyland. Below is the part one of the series. Cheers
I had the privilege of photographing my dear friend and soon to be mother of twins at one of my favorite places on earth.
So excited to finally share my interview with the wonderful people at Clickinmom's! In it, I discuss my technique, approach, equipment and current projects. Go on over and check it out by clicking the image below. Cheers
Had the pleasure of photographing Matt for his senior pictures. What an awesome day!
In the month of April, we will be doing things a little differently. I am proud to announce my partnership with the Blind Children's Learning Center based in Orange County, CA. It is such a wonderful and important school to so many families of children with visual and hearing impairments. It provides early childhood education, in home care, after school programs and so much more.
Every year, the school must raise a percentage of its budget through fundraisers and donations. So with in mind, every Family Session and Wedding booked in the month of April, 20% of your investment will be donated to help fund this amazing institution. Each Family Session and Wedding booked will also receive a special discount on prints, books, and a la crate items.
If you would like to participate in this fundraiser but want to take pictures at a later time, that's okay. All you need to do is fill out a Contact Form, and send in a deposit of 30% to hold a date of your choosing.
If you do not live in Southern California but would still love to donate (God Bless you), you can do that directly through the Blind Children's Learning Center's cite HERE.
Thank you so much and I look forward to sharing the results at the end of the month!
I am so excited and honored to be featured today on the Everything Bloom site! I talk about my approach to photography, some tips on using light to frame a subject and the photographers that inspire today.
Please check it out here.
For me, photographing a family is such a privilege and a window into peoples lives. With that said, being able to photography a dear friend's Ten Wedding Anniversary, is just magical. I have know Jamela for many years through church and BIOLA and was just honored. Can't wait to share the rest.
